Pet Shop

A Pet Shop is defined as any premises (including a private house) which is used to carry on a business of selling animals as pets.

You do not need a pet shop licence if:-

• You are only selling Pedigree animals bred by you 
• You are selling the offspring of an animal kept by you as a pet
• Please note: If you are breeding Dogs you may need a Dog Breading Licence

If you satisfy any of the conditions above it is likely you will need to apply for a Pet Shop Licence. This licence is required by law under the Pet Animals Act 1951.
