Small business rate relief

You may be entitled to small business rate relief if the rateable value of your property (or properties) is under £18,000, and you occupy either:

  • One property
  • More than one property with any additional property having a rateable value less that £2,600

Charity & Community Amateur Sports Club (CASC)

If you are either a Charity or a registered Community Amateur Sports Club you may be entitled to an 80% reduction.

Discretionary rate relief

We have the discretion to give up to £2,000 rate relief to non-profit making organisations.

To apply for discretionary rate relief you will need to complete the local support form in addition to the application form.

You will require an Equal Opportunities Policy for your organisation to be eligible for discretionary rate relief. You can use our Equal opportunities policy template to help you write one.

Rural Rate Relief

If your property is in an area on the rural settlement list, and falls into one of the categories below, you may be entitled to relief:

  • Village food shops (not hot food takeaways) with a rateable value not greater than £8,500
  • The only Post Office or general store with a rateable value not greater than £8,500
  • The only public house or petrol filling station with a rateable value not greater than £12,500.

The council can also grant a discretionary rural rate relief on certain other occupied property in a rural settlement with a rateable value less than £16,500.
