Reductions and Relief

There are a number of reductions available to occupied properties. Make sure you check whether you are entitled to any reduction in your Business Rates.

Charity and Community Amateur Sports Club (CASC)
If you are either a pdf icon Charity [61kb] or a registered pdf icon Community Amateur Sports Club [60kb] you may be entitled to an 80 per cent reduction. To apply, complete and return the relevant application form.

Discretionary Rate Relief
We have the discretion to give up to £2,000 rate relief to non-profit making organisations. Please see the pdf icon guidance notes [336kb].  To apply for Discretionary Rate Relief you will need to complete the pdf icon local support form [146kb] in addition to the pdf icon application form [510kb]. For further details see our pdf icon discretionary rate relief policy [122kb], please note this policy is currently being reviewed in line with changes in legislation and recent budget announcements.

You require an Equal Opportunities Policy for your organisation to be eligible for discretionary rate relief. You can use our pdf icon Equal Opportunities Policy template [50kb] to help you write one.

Requests for backdating discretionary rate relief will be considered at the discretion of the Council. However, in accordance with the Local Government Finance Act 1988, applications must be determined within six months of the end of the financial year for which the relief is being sought.

Hardship Rate Relief
