We have a responsibility to Council Taxpayers to ensure everyone who should make a contribution towards local services does so, and that the contribution is correct. With our partner organisations, we regularly review all claims for Council Tax discounts and carry out checks where we believe people may be avoiding making payment. This includes visits to homes and caravan sites/holiday accommodation. Where someone is found to be providing inaccurate or false information, this may lead to a penalty of £70, and for repeat offences penalty of £280, as well as a backdated Council Tax bill. If you receive a Council Tax discount, reduction or are in receipt of Council Tax Support and your circumstances change you must let us know immediately.
