Dogs
We have a legal responsibility, under the Environmental Protection Act 1990, to collect and house for up to eight days any dog that is found to be straying.
We exercise this duty through our own “in house” Dog Warden Service. Dog Wardens also enforce other dog related legislation.
Whilst not a statutory duty, it is the Councils aim to promote responsible dog ownership and to raise awareness of related issues, through a programme of education by giving presentations to schools, guides, scouts, parish councils and similar groups and by working closely with other organisations, such as the RSPCA.
