Community Coaching
We currently run the largest Community Sports Coaching Scheme in the county.
The scheme strengthens local school and club links to provide a clear pathway for individuals wanting to further their sporting development.
Aims of the scheme
- Provide high quality coaching to school children in curriculum time
- Enable schools to create extra-curricular sports clubs
- Establish exit routes for school children to continue their sporting development in community clubs
- Educate school teachers in sporting techniques and progressive lesson plans
- Introduce national governing body schemes within the school environment, which are sport led instead of educationally lead
How does the scheme work?
A community sports coach will be deployed into a cluster of schools (relevant to your local area) to deliver 6 one-hour coaching sessions on a weekly basis throughout a school term.
Schools must have a teacher present whilst the sessions are taking place. From this scheme not only do the children learn new skills but also the teachers will learn new techniques and ideas that they can incorporate into their PE lessons.
Community clubs can also access the sports coaches during the evening dependant on commitments.
When will the scheme reach our school?
The school will rotate around the district to offer as many children as possible the chance to participate. As the scheme focuses on community clubs and school links the coach deployment will have to take in a number of factors. Where possible we will be working in the school cluster groups in the district. However, clusters of schools expressing an interest will be more likely to be incorporated into the coaches deployment plans.
How much will the scheme cost?
We run this scheme FREE of charge of charge since its start date in 2005. The scheme will run FREE of charge for schools during curriculum time. For community clubs a small cost will be charged.
