EAST Lindsey District Council will begin its biggest ever regeneration-led consultation campaign with residents and users of Skegness this month with the distribution of questionnaires to over 21,000 local households. The first ‘Skegness Voice’ survey will seek to gain the views of local residents and visitors to see how they rate the current facilities and attractions in the town as well as what they would like to see developed in the future.
The results will be used to inform and influence the future redevelopment of key sites in the town. Any site-specific proposals that come forward will then be subject to further detailed public consultation. This includes an exhibition of potential designs for the Southern Foreshore that is expected to run throughout the summer of 2009, prior to the approval of any scheme.
Royal Mail will distribute the initial survey forms to the following postcode areas throughout July and August this year. A freepost response service will be provided to return the completed forms to East Lindsey District Council. The survey will also be available to complete online at www.e-lindsey.gov.uk and officers from the Council will conduct a number of face-to-face surveys in the town throughout the summer season.

The Council’s Business Manager for Regeneration, Gary Sargeant, explained: “East Lindsey District Council has no preconceived notions or aspirations in terms of what should be developed in Skegness. Instead, it is absolutely essential that we gather the views of local residents and users of the town in terms of what they would like to see developed for the future. Only then can we look to bring forward or support specific development opportunities that will improve the town and clearly address the needs of our local communities.”
A working group of local organisations has also been established to identify a range of additional issues which any major new development in the town will need to address including; access, environmental and economic impact and links with established areas and existing businesses in the town.
