East Lindsey District Council establishes working group for Skegness development

Launching a community engagement initiative in support of regeneration in Skegness, the District Council held a meeting of key stakeholders to establish the framework for public consultation in development plans for the Southern Foreshore. The meeting was attended by a diverse cross section of community stakeholders covering key groups with an interest in the redevelopment of the Southern Foreshore area. This included representatives of the Town Council, County Council and Chamber of Commerce.

Speaking at the event, Gary Sargeant, Business Manger Property and Economic Development at East Lindsey District Council, said: "It is important that we understand the views of both special interest groups and residents when we provide a brief to potential developers."

The first meeting of key stakeholders considered the way forward to ensure proper representation of interests and consultation from across the community. In particular, the Group will consider the impact of redevelopment for retail, visitor, accommodation and leisure activities.

Gary, explained: "It is our aim to ensure that we engage across the community and that no one group has a disproportionate influence on the outcome."

The next stage in the process will be a series of working groups and consultations sessions across the community that will feed in to the concept brief provided to potential developers. This will provide a clear understanding of the needs and aspirations of the people and businesses of Skegness in any proposals they present for future consideration.

East Lindsey District Council is committed to transparency and openness in our approach to this programme to ensure the best possible opportunity for our residents and the District.
