All day travel back on the cards!

ALL day bus travel is back on the cards in most areas of Lincolnshire, following meetings of Leaders from the Lincolnshire Councils and bus operators.

Resident concessionary travel bus pass holders in West Lindsey, Lincoln, East Lindsey, South Holland, Boston and North Kesteven will all benefit from the changes to the scheme, that will mean they can catch a bus free of charge at any time of the day within these areas. This new arrangement will not apply to residents of areas outside Lincolnshire.

When the new National Concessionary Travel Scheme was introduced in April 2008, the financial implications to each Council were unclear due to some outstanding appeals from bus operators and uncertainly over levels of funding at the time.

However, following an interim review that took into account the concerns raised by local residents, the six District Councils, in conjunction with bus operators and with support from the County Council, have decided to bring back free all day travel in a scheme that still represents good value to the Council Tax Payer.

The decision is still subject to formal approval by each individual Council and it is likely to be re-introduced from July 1, 2008.

Whilst existing passes refer to post 9.30am travel, residents can be assured that they will be accepted pre 9.30am after July 1.

Anyone who has not applied for a new pass and meets the criteria can do so in person through any Council Customer Service Centre. Proof of residence and proof of age/disability are required on application. A picture will also be taken for added security of new passes.

If you require further information on concessionary travel, please contact your local district council.
