Consultation and Notification
For most planning applications a yellow site notice will be put up. The planning officer will put this up near to the entrance to the site. The yellow site notice will give details of the planning application. It will tell you what to do if you have anything to say about the application.
We also advertise certain types of application in the local paper. This can include applications that affect listed buildings, protected trees and conservation areas.
You can write in support of the application or you can also object to it. Comments must be made in writing. However we will also accept emailed comments. We cannot accept comments about applications over the phone.
How we are going to consult with people is set out in our adopted Statement of Community Involvement (SCI). This can be found in the planning policy section of our website.
Telling the neighbours
The planning officer will also notify every neighbour that shares a boundary with the site. These neighbours will receive a letter from the planning department. The letter will explain the details of the application.
You have 21 days from the date the site notice was displayed to write in about an application. Neighbours also have 21 days from the date on the letter they get.
If you receive a letter with a unique reference you can enter your comments online by going to the E-planning page.
Amended plans
If we receive amended plans or information, we may need to re-consult people. This may involve notifying all of the neighbours again. For amended information we sometimes give a reduced time e.g. 14days to make any further comments they want.
