Offshore Wind Farm
Offshore and onshore development
The offshore parts include the wind turbines and underwater cables. The onshore parts include land-based substations, underground cables and any subsequent link to the National Grid. This may include pylons.
The Infrastructure Planning Commission (IPC) currently deals with most offshore wind farm developments. The IPC is an independent public body. Its main role is to make a decision on projects that have national significance.
The IPC will use National Policy Statements (NPS) to make their decision. If there is no NPS in place, the Secretary of State will make the final decision.
Current Proposals
There is a webpage for each proposal that will give you more information.
Triton Knoll
The proposal is for offshore wind turbines, underground cables to substations, the substation itself, and underground cables to the substation to the National Grid. We have been consulted on possible locations for the land-based substation. Npower Renewables has started its consultation process.
Lynn and Inner Dowsing
This proposal is for offshore elements only. This involves the installation of 6 turbines and underwater cables to Walpole substation.
