Concessionary Travel
A nationwide scheme allowing anyone over pensionable age, or with a certain disability, to travel for free anywhere in England on a timetabled local bus route.
Men and women born on or before 5th April 1950, and people with qualifying disabilities of any age, are eligible for a bus pass which allows free off peak travel across England and all day travel throughout Lincolnshire.
Men and women born after 6th April 1950 will fall under new legislation which will tie the age of eligibility for the bus pass to the pensionable age for women.
As the pensionable age for women gradually increases from 60 to 65 over the ten-year period from 2010 to 2020,as per Department for Works and Pensions, the age of eligibility for the concessionary bus pass will also rise for both men and women.
The pass can be used nationally on any timetabled local bus route within England between 9:30am and 11pm on weekdays and all day at weekends and Bank Holidays.
For eligible residents, free all day Travel is available on any timetabled local bus route within Lincolnshire
The pass cannot be used on:
- London Underground
- Excursions
- Sightseeing tours
- Taxis
- National Express
From 1st April 2011, the responsibility for the English National Concessionary Travel Scheme will be transferring from the District Councils in Lincolnshire to Lincolnshire County Council. The County Council will become responsible for issuing new passes, renewals and replacing lost passes
How to Apply
You must apply by post or alternatively you can present yourself at City Hall in Lincoln.
The option for pass applications and renewals on-line is currently being developed.
Application forms and an information leaflet about the scheme will be available from Libraries, Local District Council Offices, other key access centres and online. Your completed application should be returned together with one recent passport photo and photocopies of your proof of identification and age or disability (as detailed on the application form) to the address below:
