Reminders and Final Notices

Your Council Tax payments must be received on, or before, the dates shown on your bill. If you pay late you may be sent reminders followed by a final notice.

If you have been sent a reminder and wish to Pay Online. If you wish to make an arrangement to pay please call 01507 601111, selecting Council Tax and hold to speak with an advisor.

First Reminder
If you do not pay your Council Tax instalment we will send you a reminder giving you seven days to bring your account up to date. If you do this, we will take no further action.

If you do not pay the amount shown on the reminder notice within seven days of the reminder, we will ask the Magistrates' Court to issue a summons. Additional costs will added to your account if we need to do this.

Second Reminder
If you pay the first reminder within seven days, but you then miss another instalment later in the year, we will send a second reminder to you. This will be the last reminder we send.

If you do not pay the amount shown on the reminder notice within seven days, we will ask the Magistrates' Court to issue a summons. Additional costs will be added to your account if we need to do this.

Final Notice
If you have already been sent two reminders, and you miss another instalment, we will then send you a final notice. You will lose the right to pay by instalments and will need to pay the whole balance.

If you do not pay the amount shown on the final notice within seven days, we will ask the Magistrates' Court to issue a summons. Additional costs will added to your account if we need to do this.

We will also send you a final notice if:

  • You still owe Council Tax on a property you have left
  • You still owe Council Tax from a previous financial year
