Self-Build and Custom Build Register
The Self-Build and Custom Housebuilding Act 2015 placed a duty on local councils across England to keep and have regard to a register of people who are interested in self-build or custom build projects within their areas. The register will help inform the council of the demand for self-build and custom build plots in East Lindsey and enable the council to develop a strategy for matching people to plots.
Register your details
If you would like to register your interest for a self-build or self-custom plot, please complete the registration form below and return it via post to:
· Planning Policy, East Lindsey District Council, Tedder Hall, Manby Park, Manby, LN11 8UP.
Or by email to:
Through registering you interest in self-build you will be assisting the council in ascertaining the demand for custom and self-build plots in East Lindsey along with providing information on where there is demand for plots and for what type of house you wish to build.
The information provided will be used to explore ways in which people and plots may be brought together. Registration does not however guarantee that a suitable plot will be identified, or become available.
The register will not be a public document, but we may publish headline data from it annually.
What is self-build and custom build?
Until recently building your own home was simply known as 'self-build', in 2011, the term 'custom build housing' was introduced in the Government's Housing Strategy for England.
Self-build projects are defined as those where someone directly organises the design and construction of their own home. This can cover a wide range of projects including a traditional DIY self-build home to projects where the self-builder employs someone to build their home for them.
Custom-build describes a more 'hands-off' approach where a specialist developer co-ordinates the whole process for the people involved.
