There are alternatives to fossil fuels (coal, gas, oil) to heat your home or produce electricity.
They will either never run out (e.g. wind, sun, flowing water) or are replaceable (e.g. waste products, crops).
The main types of renewable energy are:
- Solar hot water heating
- Solar electricity (photovoltaic)
- Wind power
- Heat pumps (ground, water or air)
- Hydro power
- Biomass
There are Government grants available for such technologies through the Low Carbon Buildings Programme
