Fuel poverty occurs when a household needs to spend more than 10% of its income on home energy bills.
Factors influencing fuel poverty include:
- Low income
- Poor levels of insulation in the home
- Inefficient heating systems
- The size of the property and under occupation
- The price of fuel
There is a winter fuel payment available to people over 60 to help with the cost of heating their home over the winter months
Money can also be saved by shopping around for cheaper fuel prices.
To help to tackle fuel poverty we have adopted an Affordable Warmth Strategy.
