Environmental Protection Complaints
The Council will investigate and advise on Environmental issues within their remit, affecting the health and well being of residents, visitors and persons at work places within their area. 

The service is for the benefit of everyone. Service requests will be accepted from persons who wish to remain anonymous but the service requester should be made aware that in such circumstances the Officer may make judgement as to the authenticity of the nature of the complaint and will not engage in subsequent dialogue concerning the findings of an investigation. It is sometimes impossible to investigate an anonymous service request as the Officer has to be able to prove that a nuisance is being caused to an individual.

This service is for complaints or advice requested in relation to:-

We will endeavour to make an initial response (e.g. telephone call / letter / visit / e-mail etc) to a complaint within 3 working days. Time of completion of an investigation will be dependent upon the complexity of the matters raised, but we will contact the complainant to indicate findings where full name and address details have been provided.

This service is available as follows:

  • Monday to Thursday        - 09.00 – 17.00
  • Friday                           - 09.00 – 16.45

This service can be applied for in the following ways:-

  • by visiting Council offices
  • by visiting an area office
  • by calling the Customer Service Centre
  • by posting or faxing a letter of complaint 

Restrictions on the Service
Whilst this service is restricted to issues or advice in respect of matters described in "Details" above, please be advised that the Officers are best placed to resolve issues of allocation.

You are therefore welcome to record details of all complaints after advising the complainant that the Council may not be the investigating Authority, but will make initial enquires on the complainants behalf. 

This service is free of charge, save that where a complainant subsequently wishes to instigate civil proceedings in respect of issues investigated by the Council, then there may be a charge for the preparation and issue of a factual statement and/or copies of documents.

  • Education – noise action day
