A-Z of Council Services:

Childrens Play Areas

East Lindsey District Council is currently responsible for the inspection and maintenance of 15 children's play areas as listed at the bottom of this page.

These play areas vary in their levels of provision with most providing play experiences for both our target age groups of 2-5 years and 6-12 years.  Those play areas requiring upgrades were extensively renovated during 2006 with the exception to this being the Foreshore play area, Skegness which is subject to renovation proposals currently being produced.

The 2006 renovation project was completed alongside works identified by our recent Access Audit and has meant that 14 of the 15 play areas are both physically accessible and offer a wide range of play experiences for both of our target age groups unless marked below.

It has further been identified that provision for older teenagers and casual sports provision need to be addressed and these will be subject to a further project proposal once this need has been defined.

East Lindsey District Council has a commitment to ensure these play areas are maintained in a clean and safe condition.

All areas and each individual item of equipment are formally inspected on a weekly basis either on a Thursday or a Friday by our own trained staff. Unsafe items are repaired on site immediately or taken out of use. Repairs are undertaken as soon as possible using fully trained and qualified engineers. A current system of two independent 6-monthly and one annual inspection is being replaced by 3-monthly engineers inspections to further ensure the continued safety of equipment and infrastructure within these areas.

The cleanliness of these areas is the responsibility of the Parks and Gardens Service with litter collected by our Cleansing Service and graffiti and soiling of equipment removed on or shortly after the inspection on which it is found.

Other play areas are provided across the district by Town and Parish Councils and Village Hall/Playing Fields Committees in the following towns and villages:
