A-Z of Council Services:

Missing Children

While at the beach, it’s important that you supervise your children at all times

Top tips to keep your children in reach:

1.    When you first arrive, arrange a meeting place so everyone knows where to go and wait if you become separated. This could be the dedicated lost children post, lifeguard station or a beach shop.

2.    Get a free Sea Smart wristband for your children from the Beach Lifeguards or from the nearest Tourist Information Office. This is a free and effective way of helping other people to reunite you with your child.

If you do get separated from your child:

Try not to panic - Every year hundreds of children are reported lost, but in most cases the children are found safe within just a few minutes.

Check the area around you or where you last saw the child.  If you can’t find them, notify the lifeguards who are normally located between the red and yellow flags or go to the Lost Children’s Room at the First Aid Post.

These can be found at:

Skegness                The Embassy Centre
Sutton on Sea          Beach Chalet office
Mablethorpe            Central Promenade chalets

Give basic information about your child to the lifeguards or Lost Children’s Attendant.  This information will be passed on to the relevant authorities to help speed up the search.

Give them:

  • A description – name, age or clothing
  • Time and place the child was last seen
  • Any special needs your child may have

If you go searching for your child, make sure any other children you have with you are supervised and report back to the Lifeguards or Lost Children’s room at regular intervals.

When you locate your child notify the lifeguards or Lost Children’s Attendant immediately so they know to stop searching.  You may be asked to show proof that you are the parent or guardian of the missing child.
