SKEGNESS Sports Centre will be under new management in January when Skegness Academy takes over the running of the important local facility from East Lindsey District Council.

Customers will see no difference in the service they receive and the Sports Centre will continue to be open to local people all year round, including during school holidays.

On December 13, 2010, the Government announced that East Lindsey District Council would receive £3.4m less funding in 2011/12 and this decision will help the Council to save a further £20,000 per year on top of the savings already announced, whilst at the same time protecting the service for the community.

The Principal of the Skegness Academy, Kelvin Hornsby, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for the Academy to engage with its local community and to build on the excellent sports provision that East Lindsey has put in place.”

Portfolio Holder for Leisure at East Lindsey District Council, Councillor Adam Grist, explained: “This is a great example of how we can work positively with partners to protect local services and deliver important financial savings. Skegness Academy is ambitious and their decision to take over this facility is a positive one.”

Skegness Academy officially takes over the running of Skegness Sports Centre on January 1, 2011.
