A NEW way of working is being rolled out in East Lindsey District Council’s Street Scene Team, which will deliver both service improvements and better value for money for local people.
The new working arrangements will result in savings of at least £70,000 per year through reducing the number of managers in the services. The changes will see multi-skilled teams focusing on specific area of the District – a town and a cluster of villages.
Business Manager for Street Scene, Roy Ormsby, explained “The former Cleansing and Grounds Maintenance Teams used to work very independently. Once local people would probably have seen a different person emptying the bins, litter picking, opening and cleaning the toilets and doing the planting. Now any of these tasks could be done by anyone in the team.
“The new arrangement also has the added benefit that it enables the teams to get to know their area and the issues and how best to address them.”
They are also being encouraged to discuss with local people the key problems they feel should be addressed.
Portfolio Holder for Street Scene, Councillor Brian Burnett, said: “With the financial challenges ahead and the need for the District Council to save at least £4.5m because of Government funding cuts we need to be embracing more efficient ways of working so we can do our best to protect front line services. This saving is in addition to the £100,000 saving announced recently as a result of our planned refuse round restructure. We must continue to make more savings, ensuring we offer first class value for money services to local people.”
In the last three years the District Council has already made over £5m of savings by making its services more efficient and the £4.5m is in addition to that and from a revenue budget of £22m.
