Buckets and spades, ice-creams on the prom and award-winning beaches, East Lindsey's seaside resorts are some of the best in the world – and that’s official.

Keep Britain Tidy has announced that East Lindsey has three award-winning beaches, offering visitors great facilities alongside a litter free and safe environment.

Flying the flag for local seaside resorts in 2011 are Central Beach in Mablethorpe, Central Beach in Skegness and Central Beach in Sutton on Sea, each with a Blue Flag and Quality Coast Award.

Leader of East Lindsey District Council, Councillor Doreen Stephenson, is delighted: "We know our coastline is first class and our beaches are amongst the very best and a major attraction for our visitors. We must work hard to maintain this and ensure our seaside resorts and inland market towns and villages remain popular with tourists for many years to come. We must also develop new opportunities for business by attracting new visitors to our area - we're already seeing success with this through SO Festival in Skegness and the Festival of Bathing Beauties in Mablethorpe. East Lindsey remains firmly on a the map as one of the UK's leading tourist destinations and we will fly these flags with pride."

Phil Barton, chief executive of Keep Britain Tidy which is responsible for the Blue Flag scheme in England and the Quality Coast Awards said: “Traditional beach holidays in this country were always centred on our seaside resorts and we urge holiday-makers to rekindle their passion for Lincolnshire’s wonderful coastline and resorts.

“The continuing high standards of these beaches are testament to the hard work carried out by the beach managers throughout the year in order to provide clean and safe beaches for everyone to enjoy, whether you live on the coast or are a visitor to the area.”

There are 146 award-winning beaches in England this year – with 70 Blue Flags and 108 Quality Coast Awards between them (32 beaches have achieved both Blue Flag and Quality Coast Awards), a number that has stayed at nearly the same level over the last year – there were 150 in 2010 – proving that the our beaches continue to shine, offering residents, day-trippers and holiday-makers alike well maintained and well managed places to visit.
