EAST Lindsey District Council has joined with the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) in signing the FSB Small Business Engagement Accord.

The FSB Small Business Engagement Accord is a voluntary code of practice for local authorities, which seeks to encourage a more productive dialogue with local businesses.

It brings together various aspects of consultation best practice, as well as specific proposals from the FSB designed to improve the level of participation by businesses in local democracy.

East Lindsey District Council is the first local authority in Lincolnshire to sign the FSB Accord which reflects the high importance the authority places on working with local small businesses.

Councillor Doreen Stephenson, Leader of East Lindsey District Council, said: “We are delighted to join in this partnership with the Federation of Small Businesses because small businesses are the life blood of our economy.

“The FSB plays an important role in representing businesses in our District and signing the Accord will result in us working even more closely with the FSB for the benefit of the business community in East Lindsey.”

Neil Sharpley, the Federation of Small Businesses East Lindsey Branch Chairman, supported Cllr. Stephenson’s wishes for greater participation: “The signing of the FSB Accord represents a commitment by East Lindsey District Council to take a proactive approach to engaging with small businesses, so that they are given the fullest opportunity to participate in the decision making process and to fully understand the reasons behind the final decisions taken.

“We, on our part, are committing to working closely with East Lindsey District Council to encourage a greater business involvement in local democracy.”

There are fourteen Principles of the FSB Small Business Engagement Accord which should help increase the participation of local East Lindsey small businesses in the work of the local authority.

East Lindsey District Council and the FSB will now be discussing further ways in which they can work together to improve the economy of East Lindsey by helping local businesses.
