YOUNG PEOPLE in Ingoldmells could soon have a new playground, after funding for the Playbuilder Programme was unfrozen by the Government’s Department for Education.
The £45,000 funding allocated to the Project was put on hold in July, whilst the Coalition Government reviewed its overall financial position following the General Election. However, the Playbuilder Project for Ingoldmells, which has to be completed by March 2011, has now been given the green light to proceed through the planning process.
The Project will be led by Ingoldmells Parish Council with support from East Lindsey District Council and Lincolnshire County Council as the body responsible for disseminating the Playbuilder funding in Lincolnshire.
If granted planning permission, the play area will be constructed on the Queen Elizabeth Playing Field. It will include climbing equipment, a Combat Cableway, three seating boulders, low level earth moulds, a basket seat swing and an agility trail.
The Parish Council Chairman, Councillor Paul Chapman, is delighted: “The scheme has been in progress for several years and it’s well overdue. I’m pleased it is now coming to realization and will be well received by the children of the village.”
The Playbuilder Programme has already seen a total investment of £185,000 in play areas at Friskney, Skegness, Wainfleet and Willoughby.
Portfolio Holder for Leisure at the District Council, Councillor Adam Grist, explained: “Playbuilder presented us with an exciting opportunity to develop new play areas in our District and we put a number of projects forward to the County Council for approval. We’re working hard to improve leisure facilities across East Lindsey to encourage people of all ages to be fit and active and I’m delighted this scheme is going ahead because it compliments our other health improvement programmes.”
County and District Councillor for Ingoldmells, Councillor Colin Davie, is delighted the scheme has been given the go-ahead: “We’ve worked hard to develop the project for the benefit of the young people in Ingoldmells and it is only right that it goes ahead. This will be an important improvement to the local area and will give young people a great facility they can enjoy.”
