THE Meridian Leisure Centre in Louth has exceeded its first year target of 250,000 users – three months early.

The state-of-the-art Leisure Centre on Wood Lane boasts some of the best leisure facilities in the East Midlands. As well as an eight lane swimming pool with floating floor, the Centre has an 80 station fitness suite, with the latest FitLinxx technology to help improve the user’s workout; sauna and steam rooms; dance studios, multi purpose rooms, IT suite, crèche and day nursery, cafe and large sports hall.

Since East Lindsey District Council opened the Meridian Leisure Centre on February 6, 2010, it has become home to nine local clubs including the Louth Dolphins, Jet Gymnastics and Louth Storm Basketball team.

Portfolio Holder for Leisure at the Council, Councillor Adam Grist, said: “We took this project forward with the firm belief that if we provided our community with first class leisure facilities that they wanted to use, we could dramatically improve the quality of life for people living in our District. I am pleased so many people have seized this exciting opportunity to access the excellent facilities on offer and improve their health. We must now continue to build on this success, listen to our customers, and ensure the Meridian Leisure Centre remains a facility that people want to use for many years to come.”

East Lindsey District Council built the Meridian Leisure Centre as part of its commitment to improving leisure provision in the District through its Community Leisure Project that was launched in 2005. The Project also included the construction of new sports pavilions in Louth and Skegness, Bain Valley Park in Horncastle and a skatepark in Mablethorpe.

Memberships for the Meridian Leisure Centre are available a present for £32.50 per month, which includes use of the swimming pool, fitness suite, sauna and steam rooms and free access to the classes, such as cycle and aerobics. For more information visit www.e-lindsey.gov.uk or call 01507 607650.
