EAST Lindsey District Council has been unsuccessful in its bid to Natural England for funding to deliver the Wild Coast Gateway project in Mablethorpe.

In April this year the District Council submitted a funding bid to Natural England’s ‘Access to Nature’ funding programme to help deliver key elements of the project but unfortunately the programme was highly competitive and the bid was unsuccessful.

Although disappointed, the District Council is continuing to try to identify alternative national and regional funding streams for the project.

“Although this is disappointing news we will continue to embrace new and exciting opportunities to broaden the tourism offer along the coast,” said Portfolio Holder for Coastal Regeneration, Councillor Dick Edginton. “Eco-tourism is becoming very popular and we are working with partners to share ideas to broaden our visitor offer. We will also be holding our first green tourism seminar ‘Growing a Green Sense of Place’ in late November which I would encourage all local businesses that operate in the tourism sector to take part in. The development of our green tourism offer will attract more visitors outside the main holiday season, which will support the local economy for the benefit of local people.”

The ‘Growing a Green Sense of Place in East Lindsey’ Conference takes place at Kenwick Park Hotel, Louth, on November 24, 2010. For more information on the Conference, please contact Alison Macdonald on 01507 601111 or e-mail Alison.macdonald@e-lindsey.gov.uk
