SIX young entrepreneurs from Skegness will be given the chance to travel to Norway as part of a project that will give them an exciting and important opportunity to develop their business skills for the benefit of the local area.
East Lindsey District Council, Skegness Town Centre Partnership and Skegness Chamber of Commerce want to hear from people in the town aged between 18 and 25 who have an interest in the field of environment/energy and have an ambition to develop their own projects and learn about business.
The project, called GreenInvenT, will raise awareness of the importance of energy and environmental issues and also stimulate participants’ entrepreneurial skills for when they come back home.
Town Centre Manager for Skegness, Stefan Krause, explained: “This is a unique and exciting opportunity for Skegness and we want to hear from entrepreneurs in the resort who have an ambition to develop product ideas.
“We need to ensure Skegness is a thriving resort well into the future and projects like this will help achieve that aim. Young people are our future and we need them to be properly equipped with the business skills to create jobs and develop business ideas. This involves learning about and seizing opportunities to diversity and strengthen our economy through areas like green tourism, cultural and creative industries, local products and gastronomy.”
Back in November Skegness hosted a transitional partner meeting involving North Borsod Region in Hungary, to develop joint funding proposals to bid for EU money. Since the SEAS festival in 2009, Skegness has been developing links with Sweden and this project is another example of the legacy left by this festival and the opportunities it has created for the community.
When participants arrive in Norway on June 25, they will be joined by like minded people from Hungry, Sweden and Poland. They will be challenged to “invent” product solutions within the field of renewable energy and waste management. This may include recycling of non-recyclable plastic for garden furniture. In addition the participants will be given the opportunity to experience clean nature and the environment in what is known as the least polluted area in Europe.
The majority of the project’s funding is being put forward by the EU, but those applying will be required to pay £230 for the trip, although the Town Centre Partnership will help to seek funding opportunities to help cover this cost.
