DON’T have a dog if you’re not going to look after it properly. That’s the message from East Lindsey District Council after it collected 19 stray dogs in October, 11 of which have not to date been claimed.
Dog Warden, Sue Garland, explained: “Each year we collect hundreds of dogs from across the District but the numbers always increase as we approach Christmas. Owning a dog is an important responsibility and privilege.”
East Lindsey District Council posts photographs of all stray dogs collected in the District on its website at www.e-lindsey.gov.uk in an attempt to reunite them with their owners. However, sometimes owners don’t want them back and have turned them away on purpose.
Sue, continued: “If your dog is picked up and it is traced back to you then there are fees that you will have to pay, even if you don’t want your dog back. If you are someone in the position where you have a dog that you no longer want then you should contact a kennel or rescue charity. Please do not just turn it out on the streets to fend for itself because it is unacceptable and irresponsible.”
