EAST Lindsey District Council’s budget proposals for 2010/2011 will be agreed at its Council meeting on March 3, 2010, based on recommendations from the Executive Board on February 16, 2010.

The proposals for 2010/2011 do not make any major changes to the services currently provided by the District Council. If businesses or local residents have any comments they wish to make on these budget proposals, which are available to view on the Council’s website at www.e-lindsey.gov.uk under the Consultation section, they are urged to submit them by February 24, 2010, so they can be considered by the Portfolio Holder for Finance, Councillor Colin Davie, in advance of the full Council debate.

As you may be aware public sector expenditure is under significant pressure. The Council is preparing to make significant budget reductions in its 2011/2012 budget due to reduced Government funding, which means between £5m and £8m of savings may have to be made to balance the books.

The Council wants to actively engage with local residents and businesses on how we can best address these financial issues in an attempt to make the savings needed with the least impact on the community.

The Council will be sending out information in the coming weeks for residents and businesses to respond. It will also be setting up some consultation groups to discuss the budget proposals and would like to have a group made up of business representatives from within the District.

The Council’s Portfolio Holder for Finance, Councillor Colin Davie, is keen to fully understand the views of local people: “The Council’s budget proposals are key to our residents who pay Council Tax for the services we provide. We have already undertaken consultation with local people to understand their views on the budget for the coming year but I am keen to hear more and also from businesses. The future of public sector finance is not encouraging due to Government cuts and the Council will need to make some very difficult decisions because of this. We are committed to providing good value services with the money we have available to meet the priority needs of the community.”

If you would like to be involved in such a consultation group please enter your contact details on the same consultation webpage. We will then contact you as we start to develop our budget proposals for 2011/2012.
