Consultation on Governance arrangements for District Council
This page is part of the news archive and for reference only
People living in East Lindsey are being consulted on the Governance arrangements they think most appropriate for the District Council.
The Government has made the decision to change legislation and Councils across the country have been asked to consider which one of the following Governance arrangements they want to put in place:
- A leader/executive model where the Leader of the Council and the Executive Board are appointed by Council at its Annual General Meeting each May. The key difference between the existing and new model is that under the new arrangements the Leader is elected for a four-year term and then appoints the Executive Board at his/her discretion.
- The Directly Elected Mayor and Executive Model with the Mayor elected by residents. The Mayor would hold office for four years and cannot be removed by the Council. The Mayor would appoint the Executive at his/her discretion. The process of electing a mayor would incur additional election expenses.
People wishing to take part in the consultation should complete an online consultation form. Those without access to a computer should write to Peter Hickson, Governance Business Manager, East Lindsey District Council, Tedder Hall, Manby Park, Manby, Louth, Lincolnshire LN11 8UP.
East Lindsey District Council has to make a decision on which model to operate by December 31, 2010.
