District Council publishes Car Park Gritting Programme ahead of further expected snowfall

WITH further snowfall and Siberian temperatures expected from Thursday onwards, East Lindsey District Council has published a Gritting Programme for car parks and market places in the District.
The list of car parks (below) has been produced following consultation with the District Councillors for the respective area.
With limited resources available the District Council wants to be clear with local people what is achievable and where it will focus its attention with a view to providing the best support possible to businesses and people who need to shop and access services.
Car Parks to be gritted include:
- Alford
- Horncastle
- Market Place Car Park
- Tesco Car Park
- Louth
- Co-Op Car Park (front car park)
- Eastgate Car Park
- Meridian Leisure Centre Car Park
- North Gate Car Park
- Queen Street Car Park
- Louth Town Centre Partnership has said they will support the District Council by gritting the Cornmarket and Market Place Car Park
- Mablethorpe
- Skegness
- Lawn Car Park (Hildreds), Embassy Car Park
- Spilsby
- Post Office Lane Car Park and Middle Market Place Car Park
Portfolio Holder for Amenities, Councillor Brian Burnett, explained: “In the past 12 days our teams have used 1,400 hours clearing snow and ice on car parks and public spaces District-wide. The scale of the challenge was immense and some car parks still have thick ice despite a few days of warmer temperatures.
“We hope that by providing this structured approach to gritting local people know what we are able to do with the resources we have available to us and what we will do providing our teams are able to get into work when the snowfall comes.
“Although we are committed to this programme it doesn’t mean these car parks are safe, it simply means they will be well gritted. At temperatures well below freezing point grit and salt are ineffective and extra care should still be taken.”
The gritting programme is underway and will continue daily.
