British Legion Cup
The Royal British Legion, which provides support to serving and ex-Service personnel and their families, has awarded East Lindsey District Council its Courtesy Cup for 2009. The Council received the prestigious accolade from the Lincolnshire Branch after supporting and helping to raise the profile of its work within the community.

At the Royal British Legion’s Annual Conference held at the Priory City of Lincoln Academy on Saturday, January 23, 2010, Leader of the Council, Councillor Doreen Stephenson, who was invited as a special guest, received the Cup on behalf of the Council.

The Lincolnshire Branch of the Royal British Legion is recognised as one of the most active and successful in the country and currently holds the prestigious national Morris Cup in recognition of this.

The Royal British Legion’s County Chairman, Tony Goodwin, said on presenting the Award: “The Courtesy Cup goes to the organisation that has given the Lincolnshire Branch of the Royal British Legion the most support and encouragement in its activities in the past year. We are delighted to have worked with East Lindsey District Council and look forward to continuing our partnership over the year ahead.”

East Lindsey District Council worked with the Royal British Legion on the October edition of the partnership magazine, Messenger, which goes to all homes in East Lindsey four times per year. This gave the Royal British Legion the opportunity to raise the profile of its good work for the community and in particular those who have been in Her Majesty’s Armed Forces.

Leader of the Council, Councillor Doreen Stephenson, explained: “I have thoroughly enjoyed working with the Team at the Royal British Legion and we’ve developed a strong partnership with them through our Communications Officer, James Gilbert. We are keen to build on this and to encourage them to hold future events in our area. When speaking with many of the members you hear heart warming stories of how the Legion has supported them and we must do all we can to ensure they can continue their good work, even in these difficult financial times that affect us all. The Royal British Legion does a great job and provides support to so many. I wish them all the best in the years ahead.”

The Courtesy Cup will be on display at the Council’s Manby Headquarters until October, when it will be returned to the Royal British Legion Legion.
