The majority of people living in East Lindsey will see the amount they pay towards the services provided by East Lindsey District Council increase by less than 5p per week (2.46%).

District Councillors agreed the increase at their annual budget setting meeting tonight (March 3, 2010).

In announcing the Executive Board’s proposed budget to Council, Councillor Colin Davie, Portfolio Holder for Finance, said that in the past 12 months £1m had been shaved off the running costs from services. “We are preparing now for significant cuts in Government funding and we have no alternative but to meet the challenge head on,” he said.

Over the next few years East Lindsey District Council expects to need to make savings of between £5million and £8million from its annual revenue budget of £22m.

Councillor Davie, continued: “This year’s budget will deliver a further £744,000 of savings with a minimal impact on the services received by the local community. However, things will get tougher from here on in and we must continue to find savings year on year to reduce our running costs further.

“In making these savings we are committed to providing the best quality services possible with the money we have available and our number one priority will always be the services that support the most vulnerable members of our community.”
