East Lindsey District Council has opened its 2010/11 Community Grants Scheme and organised several workshops
East Lindsey District Council has opened its 2010/11 Community Grants Scheme and has organised a series of workshops to support organisations who may wish to bid for some of the money.
In 2009/10 41 groups benefited from total funding awards of £122,000. This is in addition to the £2,000 awarded to each of the Council’s sixty District Councillors to support local projects in their own Wards.
Although the Council will not set its budget until March 3, Councillors look set to put a similar amount into the community grant scheme for the next 12 months.
Councillor Edward Mossop, Chairman of the Community Grants Panel, said: “The Community Grants Scheme is there to support organisations in our area to achieve their aspirations. Community groups work so hard to attract funding, running galas and events, and the District Council is keen to support as many community groups as possible through this scheme in the year ahead.”
The Scheme supports a wide variety of projects including sports, arts, community buildings and social activity groups.
The workshops will take place as follows:
- Louth, Meridian Leisure Centre – Saturday 6 March, 10.30am to 12.00pm
- Mablethorpe, Community Access Centre – Monday 8 March 2010, 12.00pm to 1.30pm.
- Wragby, Resource Centre – Tuesday 9 March 2010, 12.00pm to 1.30pm
- Holten Le Clay, Community Centre – Wednesday 10 March 2010, 7.00pm to 8.30pm
- Skegness, Embassy Theatre – Thursday 11 March 2010, 12.00pm to 1.30pm
- Stickney, Village Hall – Friday 12 March 2010, 7.00pm to 8.30pm
- Horncastle, Sports Pavilion – Saturday 13 March 2010, 10.30am to 12.00pm
Groups that were successful in the last round of funding include
- (£2,333) Alford & District Cricket Club who will be hoping to nurture ‘The Next Freddie Flintoff’ once they have purchased a bowling machine along with other pieces of training equipment to help develop their junior section.
- (£250) Friendship Lincs secured a grant that will help enable them to sustain their social activity groups that are offered to adults with special needs.
- (£8,000) Irby & Braytoft Village Hall are one step closer to realising their ambitious renovation and improvement project, that will include provision of a new kitchen suite and bar area.
- (£250) Horncastle Art Group secured a grant to enable them to purchase picture browsers for their annual 3-day art exhibition. The browsers will enable more pieces of art from local amateur and professional artists to be displayed during the exhibition.
- (£235) The Visions Foundation secured a grant that will help them to capture nearly 100 hours of additional footage. The group film events in the Mablethorpe and Sutton on Sea area, archiving footage for the future generations.
Other groups that secured grants include:
- (£1,600) North Somercotes Village Hall for purchase of Short Mat Bowls Equipment
- (£2,655) North Thoresby Methodist Church to repair the damaged car park used by the local community
- (£844) St Michael’s Church Coningsby will replace internal light fixtures for environmentally friendly alternatives
- (£1,538) Horncastle & District Community Association for urgent repairs to the Community Hall
- (£2,024) North Thoresby Parish Council for urgent repairs to the village hall roof
- (£7,750) St Matthew’s Church Skegness for improvements to the community area in the church
- (£3,509) Grimoldby Cricket Club for upgrade of their toilet and changing facilities
- (£854) Baumber Village Hall to complete the final stage of window door replacement
- (£250) Royal ‘Curling’ Club Ingoldmells for purchase of indoor Curling equipment
- (£250) Alford Squash Club to enable a series of junior coaching sessions to be run
- (£250) Louth ‘Storm’ Basketball Club secured a grant to enable members to attend Coaching qualification courses
