The Leader of East Lindsey District Council, Councillor Doreen Stephenson, said following today’s budget announcement by the Chancellor of the Exchequer:

"For some time we have known that we would face some tough budgetary decisions and we have been proactively preparing for them. Our Merged Services Programme is one example of how we will save around £1m a year without a direct impact on services to the community. There are many other examples too."

"This afternoon, we have immediately begun to look at the detail and the implications of the Chancellor's Emergency Budget. It will take some time to establish the full financial implications of what has been announced and we expect further announcements later in the year following the Government’s Comprehensive Spending Review. However, it is clear that in the months ahead we will have to take some tough decisions in relation to the services we provide to the community. We realise this is an unsettling time and we will keep people informed about the process for making these decisions and how they can be involved."

East Lindsey District Council is likely to need to make saving of between £5m and £8m (around 25%) from its £22m annual revenue budget – the budget for running services – over the next three to four years.

The Council is reviewing all the services it provides to find the savings but local people may see changes in the way services are provided as a result. This may include some services, traditionally provided by the Council, being provided by the Voluntary and Private Sectors.
