East Lindsey’s state-of-the-art £12m Meridian Leisure Centre will open its doors for the first time on February 6, 2010 at 8am, the District Council has confirmed. Memberships are already on sale for the much anticipated facility that will give people living, working and visiting the District access to some of the very best sports and leisure facilities in the East Midlands.
The Meridian Leisure Centre is being built as part of East Lindsey District Council's commitment to improving the health and wellbeing of people living in the District by encouraging them to take parts in sports activities by providing excellent facilities to do this.
Portfolio Holder for Leisure, Councillor Adam Grist, said: 'This new leisure centre, coupled with our other leisure projects, will provide people living in East Lindsey today, and in the future, with excellent opportunities to lead healthy and active lives. I will be there with my family on the opening day and I hope I am joined by people from across the District who have waited for so long for this excellent facility to finally open.'
Chairman of Louth Dolphins Swimming Club, Bob Wells, said: "We are a competitive swimming club and at long last we will be moving to a venue to be proud of. The old pool served the club well for the past 23 years but we will soon have access to a modern 21st Century facility. We are looking to increase our membership across the board from the Skills squad; 7 years and upwards through Development, Performance, Senior and Masters; any age!"
People in Mablethorpe will benefit too. East Lindsey District Council is currently subsidising the Number 9 bus route from Mablethorpe to Louth through the winter in a bid to encourage people from the resort to use the new facility.
The Leisure Centre can be used on a pay as you go basis but those who sign up to one of the great membership deals will get a much reduced rate if they use the Centre regularly.
Membership, which includes exercise classes such as spinning, aerobics and aquacise; access to the sauna suite; and free swimming, is available for £32.50 per month. For those who join on an annual membership at £390 the pre-opening offer includes 15 months for the price of 12 “ that's a further saving of almost £100! Concessions can join for £21 per month subject to eligibility. You can contact the Meridian Leisure Centre to discuss membership on 01507 607650.
The much anticipated Meridian Leisure Centre, is one part of a major transformation of sports facilities in East Lindsey. The Community Leisure Project has also seen the construction of a new £2m Sports Pavilion and ground improvements on London Road in Louth and a new Sports Pavilion, set to open soon, on the Wainfleet Road Playing Fields in Skegness. The Council has also refurbished the Fitness Suites in Skegness and Horncastle and provided an outdoor Skatepark at the request of people in Mablethorpe.
