Anyone caught breaking the smoking regulations will be fined, that’s the message from East Lindsey District Council after issuing its first Fixed Penalty Notice to a Taxi Driver.
Enforcement Officers at the Council caught a Taxi Driver from Mablethorpe smoking in his car whilst at work, which is a breach of the smoking restrictions introduced by the Government in 2006.
Principle Enforcement Officer at the Council, Michael Goldby, explained: “The Council has a duty to enforce the smoking regulations for the benefit of the local community and taxi drivers are reminded that these regulations apply to not smoking in their vehicles. The smoking legislation has now been in place for four years and there are no excuses for not complying with it.
The Taxi Driver was fined £30, which was paid within the 15 day time limit. If the driver had failed to pay within this time the fine would have increased to £50.
