Teddy Bears’ picnic to signal opening of Bain Valley Park!

The free celebration at Bain Valley Park has been organised by East Lindsey District Council and will take place between 10am and 1pm and the whole town is invited to come along and have fun together. All families need to do is bring their own picnic and their favourite Teddy Bear!

The Mayor of Horncastle, Councillor Sandra Campbell-Wardman, will then select her favourite Teddy Bear and the lucky owner will have the choice of a family ticket to either Noddy or the Ice Show taking place at the Embassy Theatre in Skegness.

Free activities at the opening will include traditional fun games that everyone can enjoy together.

Work on the project to transform the former landfill site was funded by the East Midlands Development Agency from a pot of money from the Brownfield Land Action Plan (BLAP) Programme which transforms waste land into attractive space for communities.

Now the thriving parkland that was named by the people of Horncastle is almost ready to open with landscaped gardens, grassed areas for picnics, benches and disabled car parking.

Mayor of Horncastle and District Councillor, Councillor Sandra Campbell-Wardman, is delighted: “I have followed this project closely from the beginning. This new park I’m sure will be welcomed by the town and I look forward to welcoming people on May 8, when we sit down to enjoy a wonderful picnic and games together.”

The District Council is working hard to develop new leisure facilities across East Lindsey and this is another important milestone in its plans.

Portfolio Holder for Amenities at the District Council, Councillor Brian Burnett, said: “Bain Valley Park will provide the people of Horncastle with another wonderful open space that they can enjoy. It will provide some tranquillity away from the busy town centre and give families the chance to have fun together in a safe environment away from the roads.”
