Final plans for the Wild Coast Gateway project in Mablethorpe will be unveiled on June 18, 2010, and local people are being invited to see them.
The project, delivery of which is still subject to approval of various funding bids, would connect people with the undiscovered beauty and interest of the wild Lincolnshire Coast and encourage them to explore it for themselves.
The project, which has been led by East Lindsey District Council in consultation with local people, would improve access to the beach, dunes and National Nature Reserve at the North End area of Mablethorpe and see new community facilities developed to improve the resort’s local culture and heritage offer.
"We need to be embracing opportunities to broaden the tourism offer along the coast," said Portfolio Holder for Regeneration, Councillor Dick Edginton. "Green tourism is becoming very popular and Mablethorpe will benefit if the funding is granted for this project. Green tourism doesn’t rely on the main holiday season, it is all year round. We know funding is tight across all Government agencies, but we will be lobbying for this project to go ahead because it will attract people to the resort outside the main holiday season, which will support the local economy for the benefit of local people."
East Lindsey District Council expects to hear more regarding its funding applications in the Autumn.
East Lindsey District Council will be presenting the final designs of 'The Wild Coast Gateway' at the Mablethorpe Customer Access Point (Library), Stanley Avenue, Mablethorpe on Friday, June 18, between 11am and 2pm.
