Bain Valley Park, Horncastle, just days from opening celebrations
Students from Horncastle County Primary School have unveiled the name sign for the newly developed Bain Valley Park on Hemingby Way in the town, as the £850,000 project comes to an end and is just days from its official opening.
The opening celebration on May 8, 2010, will see young people and families bringing their favourite Teddy Bear’s and a picnic to the new park to take part in fun activities between 10am and 1pm.
The community celebration has been organised by East Lindsey District Council and Horncastle Town Council to bring the people of the town together to have fun.
The Leader of East Lindsey District Council, Councillor Doreen Stephenson, said: "This event will bring people together in Horncastle to have a fun day. We are pleased to have worked with the Town Council to organise this event and I’m sure everyone will have a wonderful time and there will be lots of smiles on faces. This project has seen the transformation of a derelict piece of land into a thriving community space and I’m sure it will be well used in the future."
Bain Valley Park, which boasts landscaped gardens, grassed areas for picnics, benches and disabled car parking, is another milestone in East Lindsey District Council’s Plans to improve leisure facilities across the District.
At the opening, the Mayor of Horncastle, Councillor Sandra Campbell-Wardman, will choose her favourite Teddy Bear and the lucky owner will have the choice of a family ticket to either Noddy or the Ice Show taking place at the Embassy Theatre in Skegness.
The programme of activities will be as follows:
- 10am-11am – Multi Skills Activities, Traditional Playground Games and Circus Skills
- 10.30am – Adult Aerobics
- 11am-12noon – Family Rounders, Circus Skills and Natural Play
- 11.30am – Adult Tai Chi
- 12noon – 1pm – Natural Play and Traditional family games
- 1pm picnic and judging
Also, as part of the British Gas Green Streets Poject, Transition Town Horncastle will be at the opening event too offering face and hand painting with a 'green' theme. There will also be information about the Green Babies and Toddlers Green Streets project, and Transition Town Horncastle for anyone interested in finding out more.
