Community to influence how the proceeds of Louth Pool should be used
****THIS CONSULTATION IS NOW CLOSED****
People living in and around Louth will shortly be able to express their views on how they feel the proceeds of the former Louth Swimming Pool should be used.
Between October and January, local organisations were asked to submit expressions of interest to the District Council if they thought they could be entitled to some or all of the proceeds.
15 local organisations expressed an interest, with one of those expressing an interest in being handed the facility. The application from the group wanting to be directly handed the facility had to be eliminated as part of the first phase short listing because it didn’t demonstrate need for the proposed use in its submission. No other organisation requested a direct handover of the former Pool. The Council is still in discussions with the Charities Commission on the second phase short listing involving the remaining 14 organisations that expressed an interest in receiving proceeds from the sale.
As a result, the site will be sold and local people will be asked to choose which of the following two options they would prefer to see the proceeds used for:
- The proceeds be invested and the interest used to benefit and support lots of recreational activities within Louth on an ongoing basis through a Grant Making Trust. This would mean the money would be used to help lots of local community groups and organisations in the Louth area by awarding grants to support them.
- To distribute the proceeds from the sale as a one-off contribution to the eligible charities that have submitted an application.
An advert will be placed in local newspapers in the next two weeks asking the community for their views on which of the two options they wish to support.
