Footballers in Mablethorpe urged to keep an eye on the ball!

Teams are being encouraged to sign up to a special five-a-side football tournament taking place in Mablethorpe in June as part of a campaign to raise awareness to the early signs and symptoms of cancer in men.

The tournament is being used to provide information to those playing and supporting so they have a better understanding of how to recognise and deal with the symptoms of cancer.

All too often men don’t visit the Doctor soon enough when they suspect something is wrong.

Since 2005, in Mablethorpe alone there has been 121 people diagnosed with Malignant Tumour of Prostate, 49 people with Carcinoma of Prostate 49 and 11 people with Malignant Tumour of Rectum.

Doctor Irene Carter of the Maricso Medical Practice in Mablethorpe said it is important people are able to identify the early signs of cancer: “It is essential that anyone with worrying symptoms should see their GP at the earliest opportunity as any treatment required will be much more effective if a diagnosis is made at an early stage. We hope that the men who attend this event will learn about the early signs and symptoms and will also enjoy the football!”

Some of the symptoms:

  • Symptoms of Testicular Cancer include a lump or swelling in one testicle. The lump will usually feel hard. Some men will also find that one testicle has got bigger or smaller.
  • Prostate Cancer often results in the need to urinate often and urgently, especially at night. Some people experience pain during urination and find blood and semen in their urine.
