Have you got a spare room and could you help us with Nightstop?
"Nightstop made me feel like I am actually worth something and I was welcomed into the volunteer’s home." Nightstop service user
East Lindsey District Council is appealing for more volunteers to join its Nightstop scheme to provide accommodation for young people in need of support.
Nationally there are a large number of young homeless people with no-where to go. Currently there is very little emergency accommodation available to help these young people at a time when they are most at need.
The Nightstop scheme, which is open to those aged between 16 and 25, keeps a young person safe and in a friendly environment whilst allowing agencies time to find more permanent accommodation.
Helen Henning who leads the project for the Council, explained: "As a volunteer host, you and the young person will have access to support from East Lindsey District Council throughout the young person’s stay. The scheme is about providing a friendly listening ear and support when a young person needs it most. It is a very fulfilling role and an important one that can really make a difference to a young person’s life."
Between April 2009 and March 2010 East Lindsey District Council has helped accommodate 10 young people over 45 nights through the scheme but without volunteers we are unable to help these young people through the Nightstop scheme.
