Street lighting responsibilities
Lincolnshire County Council maintains the majority of street lights in our district with street lights we maintain distinguished by the letters EL and a number painted in black on a yellow background.
‘Private outdoor lights’ in the district may be maintained by private individuals, groups of dwellings, schools or health authorities.
Street Light Maintenance
Our lights are checked fortnightly with lights that are not working repaired within 7 days (unless a fault with the electricity supply).
Reporting street lighting faults
You can report a fault to one of our street lights Monday to Thursday 9.00am to 5.00pm, Friday 9.00am to 4.45pm by:
- Visiting a Customer Service Centre;
- Telephoning us;
- E-mailing us.
When you contact us, please ensure you have all the following details:
- nature of the fault;
- defective light number (black on yellow background);
- number of the house outside which the defective light is located;
- name of the road on which the defective light is located;
- Parish or Town name;
- your name and contact details.
To report faults to lighting that is not our responsibility, please contact Lincolnshire County Council or your Town or Parish Council. In the case of ‘private outdoor lights’, please contact the light owner. Faults on un-adopted developments should be reported to the developer
Emergencies
To report serious damage to a street light we aim to have a qualified person on site to make the street light safe within two hours of notification. Emergencies are generally classed as when the street light has exposed wires, missing parts or major structural damage.
Report an emergency, by phone, Monday to Thursday 9.00am to 5.00pm, Friday 9.00am to 4.45pm, outside normal working hours please contact the Police.
