Community Led Housing -New Affordable Housing developments are starting this year in the District
March 16, 2020
In December 2016 East Lindsey District Council secured £2.25m of funding for Community Led Housing.
The scheme provides housing for the benefit of the local community and properties will generally be affordable rent, low cost home ownership or shared ownership and can be owned by the community, Local Authority or a Housing Association.
The District Council can provide advice and assistance to communities who could benefit from a community led housing development. There is help available by way of funding towards start-up costs and grants or loans towards the cost of the development. Members of the community are involved in the schemes with homes allocated to local people.
Portfolio Holder for Communities, Councillor Wendy Bowkett, said: "This is a scheme that could really help involve communities in delivering something which is a benefit to their area and the people that live in it, and something they can be proud of. It really is worth a discussion to see what the possibilities are".
In May 2019 the scheme in Sutton on Sea was completed in partnership with Platform Housing Group with a total of 7 affordable homes being built for local people.
Plans for a further 16 homes are underway in New Bolingbroke, North Somercotes, Tattershall and Spilsby.
Work has started on site in New Bolingbroke after planning permission was granted in February 2020. This scheme involved New Bolingbroke and Carrington Parish Council and the Council working in partnership with Platform Housing Group to develop an affordable home in the form of a two bedroom bungalow. This scheme was allocated a grant by the Council from the Community Led Housing fund.
