Celebrate local producers this British Food Fortnight
September 14, 2020
British Food Fortnight, the biggest annual national celebration of British food and drink, is back again this month and we're encouraging our residents to join in by supporting their local food producers.
Running from 19th September - 4th October, British Food Fortnight is all about celebrating everything that's great about British food and drink and promotes the benefits of buying and eating from our home-produced larder.
We have worked with our market traders to offer up some delicious discounts, with nine traders taking part to serve up some special offers during the fortnight.
The vouchers will be available from the participating traders at Louth, Horncastle and Spilsby Markets and will also be provided in the Louth and Mablethorpe Leaders, Horncastle News and Skegness and Spilsby Standards on Wednesday 16 September.
As a result of the Covid-19 pandemic many of the market traders have also begun offering a home delivery service, so even if you're unable to get down to your local market, you can still support local produce this British Food Fortnight! Full details of all those offering a delivery service are available online: www.e-lindsey.gov.uk/FoodTraders
Food businesses that haven't traded at our markets before are also being encouraged to trial a free stall during the fortnight. Anyone interested in taking up the free stall offer should complete an application form, which is available at: www.e-lindsey.gov.uk/NewTraderOffers
Portfolio Holder for Market Towns and Rural Economy, Councillor Adam Grist, said: "British Food Fortnight is always a fantastic opportunity to celebrate our local food and drink producers and as a District we're home to some really wonderful businesses. Supporting these businesses and supporting your local market is more important than ever before, and I'm delighted to see our market traders helping out by putting on some fantastic offers."
