Affordable Housing developments are on track to help local people

A property funded from the Community Led Housing scheme has reached completion and is providing a local family much needed suitable accommodation.

Work started on the two-bedroom bungalow in New Bolingbroke after planning permission was granted in February 2020 following partnership working with the Carrington with New Bolingbroke Parish Council and the Platform Housing Group to develop an affordable home.

The property provides housing for the benefit of the local community and was allocated  to a local family through the Council's housing register; a family that will benefit from the layout of the property that includes a level access shower.

Peter Siddons, who is in the process of moving into the property with his mother, said: "Both myself and my mother Maria are very pleased to be moving into our new home; my mother has a lot of health issues so moving into a bungalow will make life much easier for her."

Portfolio Holder for Communities, Councillor Wendy Bowkett, said: "It is wonderful to hear this property will be of so much benefit and provide the opportunity for local families a chance to stay local. This scheme really helps involve communities in delivering something to their area and something they can be proud of."

Victoria Clark, Clerk, Property Officer & Responsible Financial Officer for Carrington with New Bolingbroke Parish Council said: "The Members of Carrington with New Bolingbroke Parish Council are delighted to hear that the new property will soon be occupied and wish the new occupants well in their new home and hope to meet them soon."

Christine Storr, Project Manager at Platform Housing said: "It was great to work with East Lindsey District Council and the Parish Council to establish the housing need in New Bolingbroke as it meant we could develop a problematic area of wasteland and provide a much needed, more suitable home for a local family. The Community Led Funding made the scheme financially viable and we really value partnership working that brings such a positive outcome for everyone involved."

The Community Led Housing scheme is currently helping to deliver plans for further homes in North Somercotes, Tattershall and Grimoldby.

The District Council can provide advice and assistance to communities who could benefit from a community led housing development. There is help available by way of funding towards start-up costs and grants or loans towards the cost of the development.  Members of the community are involved in the schemes with homes allocated to local people.
