With world leaders currently meeting at COP26 to discuss the global challenges of tackling climate change, communities in our area are also being asked to have their say on a new Climate Change Strategy.

A public consultation will open on Wednesday, 10th November which seeks views on plans to achieve a more sustainable future across East Lindsey, Boston and South Holland as we work towards the country's net zero by 2050 target.

The strategy is one of the first joint pieces of work by the newly formed South & East Lincolnshire Councils Partnership with South Holland looking to consult communities in their District in early 2022.

It will seek to address the challenges and opportunities associated with key themes such as transport, the built environment, water and the natural environment amongst others.

Portfolio Holder for Partnerships and Climate Change, Councillor Graham Marsh for East Lindsey District Council, said: "As individual Councils we have been working hard to reduce carbon emissions from our own operations and here in East Lindsey continue to work towards our ambitious target to be net zero by 2040 with a 45% reduction in carbon emissions by 2027.

"The scope of emissions that is in the direct control or influence of the three Councils is very small and so this Strategy seeks to provide an overarching framework to reduce carbon emissions as-a-whole across our area. We will be engaging with stakeholders from across the key sectors throughout this consultation to ensure we are all working together towards a common goal of not just reducing emissions but also supporting improved social, economic, and environmental outcomes for our local communities".

Leader of Boston Borough Council and Portfolio Holder for Climate Change, Councillor Paul Skinner said: "Within the Borough of Boston we continue to work to be net zero in advance of the UK Government. As a Council we are well placed to lead this work, but we cannot achieve this in isolation. We hope residents, businesses and visitors to our area will all take this opportunity to feed into the strategy and tell us what they feel are the most important issues for them. We then look forward to working on a strategy together as a partnership to encourage a more sustainable future for us all."

Councillor Gary Porter, Leader of South Holland District Council said: "It is important that we continue to look at where and how we can achieve better sustainability as a district, and I am pleased that we are able to take on this challenge together as a partnership. Every response to this survey will help to shape our future priorities and, with the buy-in and feedback of our residents and businesses, we can begin to take crucial steps towards making a real difference."

A new South & East Lincolnshire Climate Action Network (SELCAN) is due to be launched in Spring 2022 to drive delivery of the Climate Change Strategy. Representatives from key sectors will be invited to join SELCAN with ongoing administrative support provided by the South & East Lincolnshire Councils Partnership.

A copy of the draft Climate Change Strategy together with the survey form can be found at www.e-lindsey.gov.uk/consultation from Wednesday and the consultation will be open until Wednesday 15 December.
