Disabled Facilities Grants
Disabled Facilities Grants of up to £30,000 are available to enable independent living.
You can apply for grant aid if you are disabled and need to make changes to your home, for example to:
Widen doors and install ramps
Install a level floor shower
Improve access to rooms and facilities - eg stair lifts or a downstairs bathroom
Provide a heating system suitable for your needs
Eligibility
Grants are available for owners or tenants
Disabled Facilities Grants for adults are means-tested, depending on your income; you may have to contribute towards the cost. Grants for children with disabilities are not means-tested
An Occupational Therapist from Social Services must carry out an assessment and recommend the adaptation.
Conditions
You have to intend to live in the adapted property for a period of time following completion of the works (10 years for owners and 5 years for tenants).
If you make an owner's application, there is a repayment clause and you may have to repay part of the grant if the property is sold within the 10 year grant period.
How to apply
