Restart Grant

To support the recovery of the high street as Government trading restrictions are relaxed, the Chancellor has announced the one-off payment 'Restart Grant'. This grant replaces the Local Restrictions Support Grant (CA/C) from April 2021 onwards (for eligible businesses).

Icon for pdf We have now received guidance for this grant scheme and the Restart Grant will be made available to qualifying (rated) non-essential retail, hospitality, accommodation, leisure, personal care and gym businesses. To complete your form you will need your business rates account number, property reference number and a scan of your business' bank account/statement header (with account details and address). When completing your application, where asked for your bank account name, please ensure to use the name of the account on your bank statement and NOT your bank provider. Once you have successfully completed your application, you will receive a unique 16-digit reference number (which should be used in any correspondence) and confirmation email. It can take up to 10 working days to process your application. This grant will be open to applications until the 31st July 2021.

The Restart Grant will support non-essential retail premises with one-off grants of up to £6,000 in Strand One of the Restart Grant. The following thresholds apply for these businesses:

  • Businesses occupying hereditaments appearing on the local rating list with a rateable value of exactly £15,000 or under on 1 April 2021 will receive a payment of £2,667.
  • Businesses occupying hereditaments appearing on the local rating list with a rateable value over £15,000 and less than £51,000 on 1 April 2021 will receive a payment of £4,000.
  • Businesses occupying hereditaments appearing on the local rating list with a rateable value of exactly £51,000 or over on 1 April 2021 will receive a payment of £6,000.

The Restart Grant will also support hospitality, accommodation, leisure, personal care and gym business premises with one-off grants of up to £18,000 in Strand Two of the Restart Grant.

The following thresholds apply for these businesses:

  • Businesses occupying hereditaments appearing on the local rating list with a rateable value of exactly £15,000 or under on 1 April 2021 will receive a payment of £8,000.
  • Businesses occupying hereditaments appearing on the local rating list with a rateable value over £15,000 and less than £51,000 on 1 April 2021 will receive a payment of £12,000.
  • Businesses occupying hereditaments appearing on the local rating list with a rateable value of exactly £51,000 or over on 1 April 2021 will receive a payment of £18,000.
